After spending about 20 days in Hainan, I have arrived in the hometown of pandas, Chengdu. Not to be confused with Qingdao or Qingdao, but Chengdu, known as “Seongdo” in Korean. Compared to Qingdao, Chengdu is relatively less known in South Korea. However, in reality, comparing Qingdao and Chengdu would hurt the pride of Chengdu locals. Qingdao has a population of around 10 million, while Chengdu’s population is 21 million. Although Qingdao is also a major city, Chengdu competes for the top 5 cities in China just after Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. In all aspects, including social infrastructure, economy, and culture, Chengdu is far ahead of Qingdao. When you mention Chengdu, the typical response from Koreans is “Ah, Qingdao?
